The complexity of early diagnosis of the disease is due to several factors: the variability of clinical manifestations associated with the initial multiregulatory influence of steroid hormones on the body’s homeostasis, the rare occurrence of the tumor and, as a result, the lack of understanding of the molecular mechanisms of its carcinogenesis.</p><p>The increased interest in recent years among oncologists and endocrinologists in understanding the fundamental and clinical aspects of adrenocortical cancer and the search for potential targets for new drugs has led to a detailed study of the cellular and molecular genetic mechanisms involved in normal adrenal ontogenesis and their role in tumor transformation. This review presents the currently known molecular genetic processes and their mediating auto-, para-, endocrine factors involved in normal adrenal ontogenesis and carcinogenesis. The paper analyzes results of trials published in international and Russian journals on molecular oncology and endocrinology indexed in the PubMed, CyberLeninka, Web of Science, Science Direct and eLIBRARY databases.</p>
в работе проанализированы результаты исследований, опубликованных в зарубежных и отечественных журналах по молекулярной онкологии и эндокринологии, представленных в базах данных PubMed, CyberLeninka,  Web of Science, Science Direct и eLIBRARY.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>adrenocortical cancer</kwd><kwd>adrenal ontogenesis</kwd><kwd>tumor transformation</kwd><kwd>signaling pathways</kwd><kwd>steroidogenic factor 1</kwd><kwd>Sonic Hedgehog</kwd><kwd>signaling pathways Wnt/β-catenin</kwd><kwd>signaling pathway SMAD</kwd><kwd>growth factors</kwd><kwd>insulin-like growth factor 2</kwd><kwd>transforming growth factor β</kwd><kwd>miRNA</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>адренокортикальный рак</kwd><kwd>онтогенез надпочечников</kwd><kwd>опухолевая трансформация</kwd><kwd>сигнальные пути</kwd><kwd>стероидный фактор 1</kwd><kwd>Sonic Hedgehog</kwd><kwd>сигнальный путь Wnt/β-катенин</kwd><kwd>сигнальный путь SMAD</kwd><kwd>факторы роста</kwd><kwd>инсулиноподобный фактор роста 2</kwd><kwd>трансформирующий фактор роста β</kwd><kwd>miRNA</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="en">Figure was partially generated using Servier Medical Art provided by Servier, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 non-ported license.</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">В рисунках использованы элементы шаблонов Servier Medical Art, предоставленные компанией Servier с лицензией Creative Commons Attribution 3.0.</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Else T., Kim A.C., Sabolch A. et al.
