Zaridze David Georgievich

MD, DSc, Professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department of Tumor Epidemiology and Prevention at the Research Institute of Carcinogenesis, N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Oncology Center, Ministry of Health of Russia; Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation; laureate of the Award of the Russian Government, President of the Russian Anti-cancer Society, visiting professor of the Oxford University, visiting leading researcher at the International Prevention Research Institute, scientific coordinator of the European School of Oncology for the Eurasian region.

In 1965, Dr. Zaridze graduated from the N.A. Pirogov 2nd Moscow Medical Institute where in 1969 he defended his PhD thesis.

In 1976, he received fellowship from the World Health Organization and completed a course on epidemiology and statistics at the London University and worked at the Epidemiology Department of the Oxford University.

In 1977, he defended his DSc thesis.

In 1978–1986, Dr. Zaridze worked at the International Agency for Research of Cancer, headed international programs on cancer epidemiology.

Since 2010, Dr. Zaridze has worked as a Deputy Director of the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Oncology Center.

In 1987–2007, he served at the Director of the Research Institute of Carcinogenesis, N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Oncology Center.

Dr. Zaridze has authored more than 300 publications in Russian and international scientific journals. He has written and served as the editor-in-chief of several monographs including “Tobacco smoking: an international health hazard” (1986), “Smoking and Health” (1989), “Cancer prevention in Europe” (1992), “Carcinogenesis” (2000, 2004), “Cancer Prevention” (2009), “Smoking is the Main Cause of Cancer” (2012).
